Text Encoding Editor Application
Text Encoding Editor, a qualitative data analysis package, is developed to assist researchers
working with qualitative text such as subject interviews, observation notes, clinical interactions,
group interventions, articles, books, archival material, and so on. Using a researcher generated
word list (tested up to 19,000) Text Encoding Editor quickly identifies, encodes, and highlights
each instance in a text file. Interactive capability allows up to nine coders to open, change, or
remove the computer generated encoding. Files may also be saved as HTML files which retain all
highlighting of words and associated codes, as well as all changes. The program automatically
culminates data by coder and segment, ASCI formatted, ready for import into statistical packages.
Frequencies, reliabilities between coders, and word counts also are automatically computed for
each file.
